Lakȟólʼiya / English
Wičháša waŋží ktepi,
A man was slain,
Wíŋyaŋ waŋží ktepi,
A woman was slain,
Hokšíla, wakháŋ šni, ktepi,
Children, sacred yet, were slain,
Čhaŋtéwaštepi, oyáte, napéčhiŋpi,
With good hearts, the people prayed,
Táku škáŋ škáŋ kiŋ, owáŋka, wíčhóȟ’aŋ,
The sacred movement, the circle, was broken,
Heháka sapa iyówažhiŋ, tȟašína iyúha,
The black elk cries, wrapping in his blanket,
WíyakAŋ šni, lakȟól wóuŋspe héčha,
Unforgotten, this is Lakota’s teaching,
Wówaši tȟaŋíŋyaŋ kte ló.
Their work will live forever.
